Song of the Falcon [Lent]

forty days to stay the mountain,
winging cross the broken ground

praying angels and companions,
falcon nesting friendship ’round

night imprint divine instruction,
voice to brush creation’s dawn

waking let myself to praises,
current singing lift me home.

–William B. Jones, Lent 2012
(based on the story of the falcon who (usually) roused Francis to prayer,
as told in Bonaventure’s “Life of Francis” VIII and Thomas of Celano’s “Remembrance of the Desire of a Soul” CXXVII)
