envelope

tonight, some Lightfoot,
low light curling,
read into an evening long,

tomorrow soon enough
to wishes,
light to raise, or leave alone.

then to tend this yes, this whether,
then to wake a welcome song.

now, this night, before we come to
slip a claim
or let it grow,

now, this envelope unopened,
this night keeping,
hold ’til dawn.
