“chop that wood, carry water”

and then, Tuesday after that,
or Thursday morning, at the latest,
it will be quiet again in God’s house,

bulletins swept up from the pews,
secretary filling in lessons and hymns,
someone reaching their hand out in prayer,

and you, your work here
shall begin.

  1. Hi Bill – Loving your web site and poetry – taking the world apart one atom at a time reorganizing it for the sacred. BTW are you familiar with Van Morrison’s song Enlightenment? Chop that wood carry water what’s the sound of one hand clapping – Enlightenment – Don’t know what it is. Hope to see you at September’s GVA colloquium.

    Be well – Godspeed.
